Product Review: San Diego Hat Company Women's Ultrabraid Visor with Ribbon Binding, and Sweatband

While I like to ignore all of my flaws and pretend they don't exist or are in fact enhancements, there is one that is really, really hard to disguise... my big ass head. I come by it honest as my dad has a ginormous round noggin so if he tried to deny me (and most of my siblings), they could just do a head size check and yep, we are his. Anyways, I love all those floppy, stylish beach hats. You know the ones that make you look like you vacation in Monte Carlo or the Cote d'Azur? Yeah while good in theory, I can NEVER fond one that fits my head. They just kind of lay on top of my hair and look limp and stupid. It does not help that I have been wearing my hair in box braids as a protective style for the last 2 years so that added bulk really makes beach hats a big ole NOPE.




It may not be as floppy and divalicious as some of the other hats out there but it does the job. And the best part? The back has a Velcro fastening! #fatheadwin It is adjustable and comfortable and gives the top of you head some ventilation. Even if you aren't cranially circumferencely challenged. Ok I may have fudged a bit on the best part as really the hardest part I find with those big hats, is packing them and not squishing them. Well this one rolls up all nice and neat and has a built in elastic band to hold it. 






This modern marvel comes in many colors so you can coordinate with your swimsuits, sundresses, cover ups etc.

I wore it on my recent Hawaiian getaway but for some reason I can not find any pictures of me in it,  only picture I have of me in it is one I took before I left home, please excuse the lack of makeup and the expression on my face, I was in last minute packing hell!


So overall, while I wish the brim was a little floppier, I would recommend this hat for anyone who has a hard time finding sun hats that fit or for anyone with limited packing room (team carryon maybe) or just anyone looking for a cute comfortable hat to rock out in the garden, beach, shopping etc.

Florida Keys Trip for 50th Bday (Days 1-3)

I had been planning for a couple years for a grand Paris and Amsterdam extravaganza for my Fabulous 50 th  birthday but thanks to COVID, I decided to play it safe and stay stateside. This led me to recently checking off an item on my travel bucket list - The Florida Keys. The travel party of Divas included the usual suspects: my daughter (26), my best friend (age not disclosed, but she is OLDER than me, shhhh) and myself. The BFF was flying down from Jersey direct into Key West a day after we got there, and el kiddo and I originally planned to take the Key West Express Ferry  out of Ft Myers. The drive from our house to Key West is just over 7 hours. The drive to the ferry is 2.5 hours and the ferry ride is about 3.5 hours. The ferry boarding starts at 7am, and with a 2.5-hour drive from our home to the ferry, we were going to stay over the night before. Better Than Sex - Dessert Restaurant (June 2021)

As part of my 50th Birthday Road Trip to the Florida Keys, we made reservations for the 1st night in Key West at Better Than Sex . There is no parking at the restaurant, so the daughter unit dropped me off out front and rode around to find a place to park. There is very limited parking in Key West and what is there you pay for and by pay, I mean like $10 for 2 hours type of pay and a 5–7-minute walk back to your destination. I most likely need knee surgery but I keep putting it off, so me and my cane were not hiking anywhere further than a minute or 2, lol. I digress. Better Than Sex – a big name to live up to. Too bad they really didn’t. I don’t know who they have had sex with, but I felt kinda bad for them. Not that the restaurant was bad, but it just was not, you know…better than sex. Islander Resort on Islamorada (Florida Keys) - September 2023

  So my favorite travel partner (my daughter, Teyonna) and I needed a getaway and decided to head back to Key West. This time we started our road trip from Orlando so it was a little shorter drive and as much as I dislike I-95, it was an easier ride than I-75 through the Everglades.
